How do I add an expense?
- Tap the + button (floating action button) at the bottom right
- Choose Manual Entry to type details manually
- Or choose Scan Receipt to use AI extraction (premium)
- Fill in amount, merchant, category, and other details
- Tap Save
What's the difference between Free and Premium?
Free Tier:
- 20 expenses per month
- 2 budgets maximum
- Basic analytics
- Manual expense entry
- Unlimited expenses
- AI-powered receipt scanning
- Unlimited budgets with overspend alerts
- Advanced analytics and insights
- PDF and Excel export
How does AI receipt scanning work?
AI receipt scanning (premium feature) uses OpenAI's vision technology to extract data from receipt photos:
- Take a photo of your receipt or select from gallery
- AI analyzes the image and extracts: amount, merchant, date, category
- Review the extracted data (always verify for accuracy!)
- Edit any incorrect fields
- Save the expense
💡 Tip: For best results, ensure receipt is well-lit, in focus, and all text is visible.
How do I create a budget?
- Navigate to the Budget tab
- Tap the + button
- Select a category (Food, Transportation, etc.)
- Set the budget amount
- Choose period: Monthly or Yearly
- Tap Create Budget
Free users can create up to 2 budgets. Premium users have unlimited budgets.
How do budget alerts work?
Premium users receive notifications when:
- You reach 75% of your budget
- You reach 90% of your budget
- You exceed your budget (100%+)
Enable notifications in Settings > Notifications
Can I import data from my bank?
Yes! You can import:
- CSV files - Export from your bank and import
- PDF statements - AI extracts transactions (premium)
- Multiple receipts - Batch process photos (premium)
Go to Import tab to access these features.
How do I export my data?
Premium feature:
- Go to Reports tab
- Select date range and filters
- Choose export format:
- CSV - For spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets)
- PDF - For printing or archiving
- File will be saved to your device
Where is my data stored?
All your data is stored locally on your device:
- We do NOT upload your data to any cloud servers
- Your expenses, budgets, and photos stay on your phone
- This ensures maximum privacy
⚠️ Important: If you delete the app or reset your device, all data will be lost. We recommend exporting your data regularly (premium feature).
How do I cancel my subscription?
iOS (iPhone/iPad):
- Open Settings app
- Tap your name at the top
- Tap Subscriptions
- Select Expense Tracker
- Tap Cancel Subscription
Android:
- Open Google Play Store
- Tap Menu (☰) > Subscriptions
- Select Expense Tracker
- Tap Cancel Subscription
You'll keep premium access until the end of your billing period.
How do I restore my premium subscription?
- Go to Settings tab
- Tap Upgrade to Premium
- Tap Restore Purchases
- Your subscription will be restored if active
🔧 Troubleshooting
AI scanning not working
- Ensure you have an active premium subscription
- Check your internet connection (AI processing requires network)
- Make sure receipt photo is clear and well-lit
- Try taking a new photo with better lighting
Notifications not appearing
- Premium feature only
- Enable in app: Settings > Notifications toggle ON
- Enable in device settings: Allow notifications for Expense Tracker
- Create budgets to receive alerts
Can't add more expenses
- Free users: 20 expenses per month limit
- Limit resets on the 1st of each month
- Upgrade to Premium for unlimited expenses
Can't create more budgets
- Free users: Maximum 2 budgets
- Upgrade to Premium for unlimited budgets
Export not working
- Premium feature only
- Ensure you have expenses in the selected date range
- Check device storage space
- Grant storage permission if prompted
App crashing or freezing
- Close and restart the app
- Update to the latest version from App Store/Play Store
- Restart your device
- If problem persists, contact support
Data not syncing between devices
- Expense Tracker does NOT sync between devices
- Each device has its own local data
- To transfer data: Export from one device, import to another (premium)

Always Verify AI Data: AI scanning is powerful but not perfect. Always review extracted data before saving.

Use Filters: In the home screen, use search and filters to quickly find specific expenses.
